"Building an open local government: from principles to practice of good governance": Assessment visit of Romanian and Moldavian partners to Ukraine (Ivano-Frankivsk Region), January 17-19, 2006

Project goal:
Establishing an efficient network for information sharing, consultations and citizen involvement in the shaping of political vectors. Promoting, establishing, and maintaining partner relations between NGOs aimed at developing projects and strategies in the region. Strengthening the ties between the local governments and the public. Elaborating an action plan for implementing the experience in raising the transparency and accountability of local government in Ivano-Frankivsk, public awareness and citizen involvement in the decision making process; raising the efficiency and professional expertise of local governments to the European standards.
Results of the visit:
- Establishing dialogue between local governments and civil society representatives from Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova; support for establishing an unofficial NGO network;
- Identifying and analyzing key issues and problems in the region; searching for solutions;
- Identifying specific areas for cooperation between local governments and organizations that represent civil society;
- Finding ways for strengthening the ties between local governments and the community on the regional and national levels.
