Precarpathian travelers will foster the development
Starting from summer 2008, Ivano-Frankivsk Region has launched a project on involving local communities to developing the Dniester Canyon.
NGO “Traveller’s Club “Golden Fleece” (Horodenka district) with the support of the Dutch Embassy’s MATRA KNIP program initiate the project whose aim is to attract the youth and volunteers from local communities to solve the issue of pollution of the Dniester Canyon in Ivano-Frankivsk Region and to collect garbage in the most polluted areas. The project plans to set up two camping sites on the Dniester banks and to publish materials promoting the destination.
The meetings and round tables held with the local communities gave materials for preparing recommendations to the local authorities and governments on the development of territories that would take into account the ecological situation.
The project will improve the social and cultural situation in the region; it will also help to create a unique tourist product and promote tourism in the Dniester Canyon.
The government recognizes the importance of the project and offers its support and partnership. The Main Department of Tourism, European Integration, Foreign Relations and Investment of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration (Director – V. Semkiv), Horodenka District Council (Chair – B.M. Kobylianskyi), Cherneletske Forestry (Director – I.P. Hryniv), Department of Culture and Tourism of Horodenka District State Administration (R.M. Osadchuk) as well as village councils have all expresses their willingness to back up the project.
