International Workshop "Development of local culture and cultural tourism through the creation and promotion of cultural routes» within the framework of the project “Valorisation of the historical and cultural heritage through the development and promotion of the Carpathian Cultural Route”

February 21 to 23, 2023, an International Workshop "Development of local culture and cultural tourism through the creation and promotion of cultural routes" was held in the framework of a project “Valorisation of the historical and cultural heritage through the development and promotion of the Carpathian Cultural Route”, implemented by the NGO “Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk (AEDIF)” in the partnership with Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures (Romania) and Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas (Ukraine) in the framework of the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI CBC Programme 2014-2020.

More than 80 participants from the Ukrainian and Romanian sides took part in the International Workshop on the ZOOM platform. These are representatives of historical and cultural objects, state authorities and local governments, as well as national natural parks and reserves, tourism service providers and public organizations, scientists from higher educational institutions of Ukraine, cheering for the development and promotion of our centuries-old cultural heritage.

The workshop participants familiarized themselves with the theoretical course, namely: cultural and natural heritage, cultural tourism, cultural routes (paths), brand and marketing strategy of cultural routes. As part of the seminar, a presentation of the project “Valorisation of the historical and cultural heritage through the development and promotion of the Carpathian Cultural Route”, the experience of creating and promoting the Carpathian Cultural Route, and the objects of the Carpathian Cultural Route in Ukraine and Romania were made.

On the first day of the International Workshop on February 21, 2023, the participants of the seminar were welcomed by:

Mariya Kovaliv – Vice-chairman of the NGO “Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk (AEDIF)”, Project Manager noted that the participants of the seminar will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the theoretical course in the field of culture and tourism, the creation and promotion of cultural routes, share and exchange practical and scientific experience, new developments in the field of culture and tourism, to initiate sustainable cooperation for the quality management of cultural heritage and its use for the well-being of communities, to promote the creation and development of the Carpathian Cultural Route. She also noted that despite the trials we faced in connection with the Russian aggression against Ukraine, the beneficiaries and participants of the project work and cheer for the preservation of cultural heritage and the development of our Carpathian region. Radu Big the Executive Director of the Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures, Project Coordinator, expressed positive hopes that the foundation laid during the development of the Carpathian Cultural Path will continue to work for 20-30 years. Oleg Mandryk First Vice-Rector of Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Communication Project Manager, pointed out the importance of cross-border cooperation in the implementation of the project for the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage. Steliana Cojocariu–Expert of the Romanian Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Tourism (Romania) said that they will make maximum efforts to popularize and promote the Carpathian cultural route. Oleksandr Zraiko – Head of the Department of International Cooperation, European Integration, Tourism and Investments of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration, pointed out the importance of implementing this project in such a fateful time for Ukraine and its perspective in a victorious Ukraine. Oksana Shyychuk - Expert of the Branch Office of the JTS of the Hungary-Slovakia-Romania-Ukraine ENI CBC Programme 2014-2020 noted that the project is mature and professional from the point of view of project management. After all, its implementation began during the coronavirus pandemic, then a full-scale invasion, but despite everything, the project continues its work.

Mariya Kovaliv – Vice-chairman of the NGO “Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk (AEDIF)”, Project Manager introduced the participants of the International Workshop to the project "Valorisation of the historical and cultural heritage through the development and promotion of the Carpathian Cultural Route", outlined the main tasks, measures and achievements of the project.

Afterwards, Oleksandr Koval – Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Tourism and International Communications of Uzhhorod National University, a trainer for all stakeholders of this event, conducted Session 1: "Cultural and Natural Heritage" and Session 2: "Cultural Tourism". Vitaly Perederko - Head of the Tourism Department of the Department of International Cooperation, European Integration, Tourism and Investments of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration reported on the development of cultural tourism in the Ivano-Frankivsk Region. Liudmyla Arkhypova – Head of the Tourism Department of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Project Coordinator introduced the results of sociological surveys of cultural and historical objects and visitors of the Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions of Ukraine. Teofil Ivanciuc – Tourism expert of the Maramures County Destination Management Organization, presented information on the development of cultural tourism in the Maramures County. Radu Big the Executive Director of the Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures, Project Coordinator, informed about the results of sociological surveys of cultural and historical objects and visitors of Maramures County, Romania.

On February 22, 2023, the International Workshop continued its work. Mariya Kovaliv – Vice-chairman of the NGO “Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk (AEDIF)”, Project Manager, introduced the seminar participants to the theoretical course - Session 3 - "Cultural routes (paths)", namely: the essence and definition of cultural routes; planning and organization of cultural routes; creation and operation of a network of cultural routes; European policy for the development of cultural routes (European, Ukrainian, Romanian legislation).

The attendees were introduced to the Concept of the Carpathian Cultural Route and the presentation of the Carpathian Cultural Route by Mariya Kovaliv – Vice-chairman of the NGO “Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk (AEDIF)”, Project Manager, Volodymyr BurdeniukProject Coordinator  of the NGO “Association of Economic Development of Ivano-Frankivsk (AEDIF)” (Ukraine) and Radu Big the Executive Director of the Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures, Project Coordinator.

Next, for the stakeholders of the event, the presented objects of the Carpathian cultural route are extremely interesting, meaningful and, provoking a desire to visit, using multimedia. Yaroslava Tkachuk General Director and Iryna Fediv Deputy General Director for Scientific Work presented the National Museum of Folk Art of Hutsul Region and Pokuttia named after J. Kobrynskyi and its branches, the Museum of Easter Painting, the Kosiv Museum of Folk Art and Life of Hutsul Region, the Museum of Ethnography and Ecology of the Carpathian Region. Oana Chirilă Museographer told about the Baia Mare County Historical and Archaeological Museum and Baia Mare Butchers' Bastion, and Oana Leșiu Chef of department made a presentation about the Baia Mare Butchers' Bastion. The Andriy Stasiuk – Head of the Scientific and Educational Department of the National Reserve "Davnii Halych", introduced the objects of the National Reserve "Davnii Halych". Mirela Ana Barz Museum manager gave a presentation of the Museum of Maramures Sighetu Marmatiei, Ethnography and Folklore. Tetiana Manyk Academic secretary presented the Art Museum of Prykarpattia. Robert Ștrebeli Museum manager represented the County Museum of Art, Baia Mare Artistic Center. At the end of the second day of the international seminar, Radu Big the Executive Director of the Development Centre for Small and Medium Sized Enterprises Maramures, Project Coordinator informed the audience about digital tourist information points and information stands for the arrangement of the Carpathian Cultural Route.

On February 23, 2023, the final third day of the international seminar "Development of local culture and cultural tourism through the creation and promotion of cultural routes" took place. Halyna Malets – trainer, based on her own many years of experience, including the successful example of the city of Lviv, told the audience about the brand and marketing strategy of cultural routes (Session 4). Liudmyla Arkhypova – Head of the Tourism Department of the Ivano-Frankivsk National Technical University of Oil and Gas, Project Coordinator presented the brand and marketing strategy of the Carpathian Cultural Route at the seminar. Myroslava Nod –  Director of “Nadiya” Travel Agency LLC, outlined the possibility of promoting the Carpathian Cultural Route in Ukraine and its prospects. Diana Iluț – manager of the "Sfara Tours" Travel Agency SRL, in turn, shared information about the promotion of the Carpathian Cultural Route in Romania.

Summing up, first of all, it should be noted that this event aroused lively interest not only in the Carpathian region, but also in the north, east and centre of Ukraine.

The participants of the International Workshop discussed the importance of creating and developing the Carpathian Cultural Route, received comprehensive answers to their questions, and expressed their willingness to participate in the project's activities. Taking into account the great interest in its conduct and the favourable feedback of the listeners, the seminar achieved its aim: increasing the level of knowledge and professional skills of representatives of historical and cultural objects, tourist companies and providers of tourist services, state authorities and local governments, civil society institutes of Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia Regions (Ukraine) and Maramures County (Romania) in the field of culture and tourism, creation and promotion of cultural routes. At the end of workshop, the participants were awarded with certificates.

The high level of organization and conduct of the training, receiving a high rating from the workshop participants and their interest in the materials of the speakers, indicate the intention to apply the knowledge and experience gained during the training, and have prospects for their implementation.
